Thirteen Things that J&J's Mom remember's from the 70's! In the spirit of yesterday's post, I decided to share some "old" memories with you from my childhood...especially if you were a girl! (Sorry fellas, them's the facts!)
1. You wore a rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other.
2. You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it (did it have a sissy bar, too?). And of course mine was purple!
3. You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.
4. You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!) and you were absolutely in love with Randy from Emergency and Ponch from Chips! OOOhhh baby Erik Estrada!
5. You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill" because your Mom was sick of braiding your hair. My mom made me get a pixie because she couldn't deal with the knots in my hair.
6. You wore a poncho, gauchos, and crushed velvet.
7. You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.
8. You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. I think I went broke on ribbons and beads!
9. You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle).
10. You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Olson! 7th grade school picture..yup...blue paid ruffles and the prairie skirt to match!
11. Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket. Gotta love Farrah Faucet Majors!
12. You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend. I couldn't believe that Bo Duke could sing too!!
13. It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags! WE SOOOOO did this!! And those flying monkeys freaked me out every time!
Bonus: You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shawn Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?" I prayed every night that Shaun would "find" me and we spend the rest of our lives together...I can't tell you how many times I cried over him...Da doo run run run, da doo run run! You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your sticker album! I'm embarrassed to say... I did this...and STILL HAVE THEM!! I also collected all the little plastic figures of each smurf...oy. Links to other Thursday Thirteens! |
